Inside The Colonys open kitchen, complete with a kiawe wood-burning oven, chefs put the sizzle into a mouth-watering selection of cuts of beef. Sink your teeth into premium New York strip steak, rib eye and filet mignon, the latter with the zing of a citrusy yuzu sauce. As one of the few steakhouse restaurants in Waikiki, a la carte accompaniments range from a Big Island Hamakua Alii mushroom ragout with port demi-glace to a classic baked potato or updated trio of mashed potatoes: russet, orange sweet or purple Peruvian. Seafood lovers will delight in Prosciutto-wrapped diver scallops, macadamia nut-crusted soft-shell crab, and three types of lobster, all of which are flown in daily from around the world. Simple sweet cold-water lobster dipped in golden drawn butter is enough to make you feel youve found paradise, which in many ways, is exactly what our Honolulu restaurant is. Two of the worlds most popular cuisines, Chinese and Italian, come together at Ciao Mein. Its an unlikely pairing, but one thats been winning accolades since this Waikiki restaurant opened in 1991. Choose from Italian or Chinese dishes or Collision Cuisine, where both come together in dishes such as savory salmon filet glazed with hot soy bean sauce served over shiitake risotto, or spicy ginger-garlic shrimp paired with angel-hair pasta. Family-style servings are meant to be shared, and ten first-place Taste of Honolulu award-winning dishes are marked on the menu to make these favorites easy to find. They include sweet honey-glazed walnut shrimp stirred with crisp sugar snap peas and spicy wok-fried Szechuan eggplant, Bistecca di Manzo Alle Erbe, prime sirloin marinated in olive oil, basil, herbs and pine nuts before being cooked to order, as well as Raviolo Aperto, a ravioli of sea scallops sauted with pancetta, cream and air-dried tomatoes. Nightly specials are also sure to surprise and delight.

My wife and I ate at Ciao Mein last night. I could not believe how cold the restaurant was. Had to be reseated to a (slightly) warmer part of the restaurant so my child didn't get the cold. Foog? Spring rolls were really good, srimp and walnut was good, chicken stir fry over cake noodles, like eating bland chicken on top of Shreaded Wheat. Awful! And this was a recommendation by two of the wait staff. The waiter didn't ask if the food was okay even when he brought the check. I had the akward task of bringing up the fact that the dish was terrible, even though he was carrying away my still full plate. I will not be back, ever. This is an overpriced, poorly serviced, freezing cold restaurant. Oh, and mixing the Italian and Chinese menus......BAD IDEA! Ruin two perfectly good cuisines, why don't you!
