A new state capitol building replaced Iolani Palace as the capitol in 1969, featuring 40 ionic columns representing native royal palm trees. It is located downtown, just west of the Queen's Medical Center. Two 7,500-pound replicas of Hawaii's state seal adorn the capitol's entrances.
